The intense aroma and unmistakable flavour of true oregano are invaluable for seasoning Italian and Mexican dishes. This savoury and robust aromatic complements roasted meat dishes, soups, sauces, dressings and vegetables. Oregano can be grown in the garden beds, window boxes or containers. Oregano needs both excellent drainage and good air circulation to thrive; moderate fertilizer is sufficient. This hardy perennial has a bushy plant habit and will bear small, edible pinkish-white flowers in the summer. Oregano requires pruning frequently to encourage branching and delay flowering. Best used fresh, but can be dried also.
